Week 1 - August 17th-21st (mob, mot, mov = move)

1.  automobile -  a self - propelled passenger vehicle that moves
2.  demote - to move down in grade, rank, or status
3.  locomotion - the ability to move from place to place
4.  mobile - capable of moving or being moved
5.  mobility - the quality or state of being able to move about freely
6.  mobilize - to coordinate; to move people or things around for a purpose
7.  motion - the act or process of changing place or position; the ability or power to move
8.  motivate - to do something that makes a person move into action
9.  promote - to raise or move to a higher grade, rank, or job; to advocate
10.  removal  - the act of moving something away





Week 2 - August 24th - 28th(grad, gress = step)

1.  aggressive - hostile; pushy; stepping into someone's space with forceful energy
2.  centigrade - Celsius; temperature rating on the thermometer made up of 100 degree intervals or steps between the freezing and boiling points of water
3.  degrade - to reduce someone's worth or value; to make someone step down to a lower position or rank; to move down a step in social status
4.  digress - to stray away from the main topic; to step away from the topic and lose clarity; to wander in thoughts or ideas
5.  gradual - a slow change; a step-by-step change
6.  graduate - to move up a step in education (usually out of a school)
7.  progress - to move a step in a positive direction; to improve; to move a step closer to a goal
8.  progression - a step-by-step sequence within a continuous series
9.  regress - to go back; to move backward; to move a step back
10.  upgrade - to move up a step or level; to improve in quality




Week 3 - August 31st-Sept 4th

Week 4 - Sept. 7th - 11th (pos=to place, put)

1.  apposition - a word or phrase placed next to another word in order to define or identify it
2.  compose - to put ideas into writing; to write a musical piece; to create or produce
3.  depose - to remove from office or power; to take out of place; to put down
4.  deposit - to put money into an account
5.  expose - to put something out for other to see
6.  imposition - something that is a burden to someone else; to put your needs above someone else's to the point that it's a burden for others
7.  juxtapose - to place side-by-side for the purpose of comparing and contrasting
8.  post - to put something up on a board for everyone to see; to display
9.  proposal - a plan or offer that is usually put down in writing
10.  transpose - to put into a different order or place; to reverse or transfer the order





Week 5 Sept. 14th- 18th ( sed, sid, sess = to sit, settle)

1.  assessor - an official who evaluates and settles on a value of a property for tax purposes
2.   president - an executive officer who sits in charge of a firm or organization
3.  reside - to settle into a place to live; to exist
4.  residence - a home; a place where a person settles to live
5.  sedan - a closed automobile that has enough room for four people to sit comfortably
6.  sedate - to help someone calm down; to help someone settle down
7.  sedative - medicine used to help a person settle into a state of calmness
8.  sedentary - fixed to one spot; marked by a great deal of sitting and very little exercise or travel
9.  sediment - the solid material that settles to the bottom of a liquid
10.  session - a meeting, class, or assembly where a group sits together 




Week 6 - September 21st-25th

Week 7 - September 28th - October 2nd (log = word, idea, reason, speech)

1.  analogy - words that draw comparisons and similarities
 2.  apology - words expressing regret; words asking to be excused for an action 
 3.  dialog - a conversation between two or more people; words shared between people 
 4.  epilogue - a short section added to the end of a book; a short poem or speech directly to the audience at the end of a play
5.  eulogy - kind words spoken about a person who has passed away; high praise 
6.  logbook - an official record; a book in which information is written in a timely manner 
7.  logical - a statement, thought, or action that is reasonable; words that make sense 
8.  logo - a word, name symbol, or trademark designed for easy recognition
9.  monologue - a long speech made by one person; a continuous series of jokes delivered by a comedian 
10.  prologue - introduction; preface; an introductory chapter at the beginning of a book or play 


Week 8 October 5th - 9th (ono,nym,onym= word, name)

1.  acronym - an abbreviation formed by combining the initial letters in words or parts of a series of words
2.  anonymous - not named or identified; done by someone unknown 
3.  antonym - a word that means the opposite of another word 
4.  eponym - a person for whom something, such as a city, building, or street, has been named 
5.  heteronym - one of two or more words that are spelled alike but have different meanings and pronunciations , such as bass voice and bass, a fish
6.  homonym - one of two or more words that are pronounced alike but have different spellings and meanings such as isle and aisle 
7.  onomatopoeia - the formation of words that imitate sounds associated with the objects or actions to which they refer 
8.  oronym - a string of words that sounds the same as another string of words, such as gray day and grade A 
9.  pseudonym -  false name; a fictitious name 
10.  synonym - one of two or more words that have the same meaning

Week 10 October 19th - 23rd
(tain, ten, tent = hold)

 1.  abstain - to hold back from an activity by choice; to hold back from voting
2.  contain - to hold ; to have within
3.  detain - to hold back ; to delay; to keep from proceeding
4.   detention - a period of time in which someone is held back; a form of punishment by holding someone after school hours
5.  extend - to hold out; to unbend;to stretch or spread out; to offer
6.  patent - legal ownership of an invention held by the creator; exclusive right or ownership
7.  retainer - something that holds something else in; a device that holds something in
8.  tenant - a holder of land rights; a person who holds the right to live in a residence; an occupant
9.  tendon - a band of tough fibrous tissue that holds a muscle to a bone
10.  tentative - holding back on the final decision; uncertain; hesitant; not fully agreed upon  



Week 11 October 26th - 30th
(fer= to carry, bear, bring together)

1.  chauffeur - a person hired to drive or bring someone to another location; a driver
2.  circumference - the distance around a circle; to carry the distance around a circle
3.  conference - a meeting that brings people together to exchange views or information
4.  differ - to carry a different opinion; to carry an opposing view
5.  fertile - capable of bearing or producing crops or vegetation; highly productive
6.  infer - to bring together information to reach a conclusion; guess
7.  offer - to bring forth ideas; to propose or present
8.  prefer - to choose one thing that carries priority over another; to value more highly
9.  referral - a recommendation; a letter or notice that carries good words about a person
10.  transfer - to bring something from one place to another 



Week 12 - November 2nd-6th

1.  capable - having the ability; able to do something; able to seize an opportunity
2.  capacity - the ability to hold, take in, or absorb
3.  capitalize - to take advantage of something; to make the most of something
4.  capsize - to overturn; to take and flip over
5.  caption - a title or short description of a picture
6.  capture - to take possession or control of something; to take someone against his or her will; to preserve in a permanent form
7.  decapitate - to take the head off something
8.  encapsulate - to take in; to surround; to encase or protect
9.  escape - to take a path away; to leave; to get free
10.  recapitulate - to take the main ideas and repeat in a summarized form


Week 14 November 30th - December 4th
(pel, puls = drive, driven, force)

1.  compel - to force someone to do something; to drive someone into action
2.  dispel - to drive away; to force out of one's mind; to go away
3.  expel - to force or drive out; to force to leave
4.  impel - to drive forward; to urge to action; to motivate
5.  impulse - a sudden urge that drives someone into action
6.  propel - to force to move forward; to drive onward
7.  pulsate - to vibrate; beat; forced to produce short bursts
8.  repel - to drive back; to ward off or keep away
9.  repellent - a substance used to drive away insects or animals
10.  repulsive - disgusting; tending to drive off; offensive

1.  appendix – a collection of supplementary material that usually hangs at the end of a book; extra materials added to the end of a book
